Design and manufacture of a pneumatic actuator made from non-magnetic material for operating low-voltage switches from Siemens, Schneider Electric and ABB – Legrand, equipment installed at a test facility – the photos show the station at Cadarache – previously built in collaboration with ASG Superconductors to test industrial circuit-breakers operating in a magnetic field, comprising a cooling system for the Helmholtz coils and a pneumatic system for operating the actuators. The pneumatic actuator is fitted with various adaptor plates to fit and secure the front panels of the different types of circuit-breakers; to operate the levers, a special escapement-type manipulator with a jointed mechanism was designed and implemented to actuate the circuit-breaker levers. To ensure the correct opening and closing movements of the various switches, specially designed bronze slides, suitably shaped to size, have been manufactured.
